Gold: For fools or wise investors? Presentation at the 9th Equitymaster Investor Meet, Mumbai
Gold (Rupee) Gold (US$) Sensex (Rupee)
Comparative Graphs: Using these graphs you can compare the return generated by gold in various currencies and also the BSE Sensex. So, if 100 units are invested in Gold (US$), Gold (Rupee) and BSE Sensex (Rupee), and in one year this amounts to 110, 105 and 115 respectively, you can deduce that an investment in the BSE Sensex would have outperformed an investment in Gold (Rupee). The important thing to note is that Gold has returned differently in Rupee and Dollar terms. This is due to the fact that the Rupee/Dollar exchange rate has changed; in this instance the Rupee has appreciated against the Dollar. In case the Rupee had depreciated against the Dollar, then the Gold (Rupee) would have generated a higher return as compared to Gold (US $). (Close)
